Behind the scenes activities

Now that the website has been redesigned, the soaps are listed and set up with a shopping cart, I have been working on getting the word out there that we do have a website. On the web, the adage, "If you build it they will come," just doesn't work unless you are Burger King so the rest of us have to work a little harder.

First thing I did was promote the journal. The journal runs under Movable Type, an open source blogging app. It's nice, easy. Since it is a blog, I registered at http://www.blogexplosion.com/ and judging by the numbers in the logs, it is working. Hi Blog Explosion visitors!

The second thing I did was join the Fingerlakes Web Ring. A web ring is a collection of links that have something in common (in this case geographic location) where you can jump from site to site from links on those sites. So on the front page you'll see more info about that.

We are a member of the Finger Lakes Web Ring.

And lastly I donated some funds to LocalHarvest.org in hopes that my soaps will be placed higher in the ever-growing list of soaps. ::blush:: Mine are better! Yeah, really, they are!

While I am on the topic of mentioning other sites, I want to let everyone know about one more. It is called Freecycle and I bet you have one where you are. If you have items that are maybe too good to throw away or recycle, but maybe no one would want to pay cash for the, you can freecycle them, or give them away. By giving something away you can then feel free to ask for something, or take something someone has offered. I have gotten rid of over a dozen olive oil cans from my soap making process, a pinata, old egg cartons and magazines. In return I have gotten a water jug with a spigot, perfect for soap shows, old hamburger buns that the chickens, pigs, chickens, geese, chickens and turkeys enjoy, and have wished I had gotten a lot of Carharrt Hats someone was giving away. Check it out.
