Not too much going on

I have been sick for about a week now and the energy has been drained from me. I won't bore you with the details. I am bored with the details myself. I have watched so many reruns of E.R. that I have a false sense of bravado now when I visit the doctor's as if I know more of the goings-on than the folks who work there. Although when it came to the handling of some of my tests, I did know more, so ... hmmm....

The poor chickens. Being sick I could not get more feed until late last week. I had thought I had bags left for them but they turned out to be goat feed. The ducks swarm the feeders when I fill them and some of the more timid chickens are left out. I have set up a couple more stations for everyone so it will even out, I hope. Whenever I open a door to the house to come out, or even to drop something in the compost, chickens come running from everywhere for a treat. And, I admit, 9 out of 10 times they get one, so I guess I am reinforcing that behavior. It's not a bad effect, however sometimes leaving the house is difficult as they swarm like cats around my feet. There have been incidences of accidental soccer. :(

Some of the chickens have taken to sleeping in the barn. At first this conjures up images of cozy birds perched on hay, overlooking Bebe the nubian who is also in the barn. The 2 tom turkeys are there too, and every once in a while, one of the hens. At first glance it is cozy. But chickens poop. A lot. Occasionally they decide to try roosting on the tractor but its slippery surface doesn't allow their sharp toe nails to gain traction. Those nails can leave a mark though. *sigh.

The turkey hens mostly perch in a large white pine tree. They are excellent fliers. Excellent. One girl roosts about 20' up. They also like to check out the roof, which is a little eerie if I am inside, hearing them traipse around on top my head.
