Signs of Fall

There are many signs of fall. There are the obvious visual clues like the turning colors of the leaves, corn and other crops being harvested and chopped for winter. Forecasts for overnight frosts are coming quicker and quicker (though no frost has hit here yet). Deer have changed from their ruddy summer coats to liver brown. A less obvious clue is the presence of Orion in the sky. He has been prancing around for a month; the constellation only appears in the sky here about 6 months a year.
Today I opened the doors of the coops to find mounds of feathers. Fall also brings molting time for chickens. Seemingly overnight, most of their feathers fall off, leaving silly looking birds on the roosts, and multi-color piles of feathers underneath.
Fall also brings changeable weather. While it may be 40 degrees at night, by midday it can be 85 degrees. The storms are strong and take the leaves off the trees. A precursor of what is to come.
