Missing: one very small turkey
I have talked about the small banty hen who was fostering a turkey poult for me. She and her adoptee and her own 3 chicks sleep at night in a rubbermaid tote in the barn now. In the mornings, I remove the lid and they are allowed to wander where they want. They usually don't go too far - maybe to the front of our house, next door to the other barn, or just around the front of the barn where they are. The weather has been warm and nice.
When baby turkeys are wandering around, they frequently call out "Kee Kee Kee." It is high-pitched and easy to hear, a great turkey locator.
When Gary got home this afternoon, there were no "Kee Kee Kees" to be heard. I arrived home not long after and the search was on. Mama hen told me all about it in a series of buk buk buks, but I didn't understand her :) But she was certainly upset about something.
I searched all over, but the silence was enough to tell me that the baby turkey was gone.
