a *very* unwelcome visitor
On Friday, I sold my spring roosters and a lot of ducks to a buyer - about 50 birds total. I am trying to keep the bird numbers down, and most of them out of the barns. Meanwhile someone else has been helping to keep the numbers down. This morning, I lost a duck who had taken shelter in one of the barns to this guy, and I suspect several chicks over the summer. Luckily, Gary had some .22 birdshot and is a good marksman and took care of this guy quickly. Here's hoping there's not another out there ready to take its place. Weasels can quickly devastate a poultry flock.

What a fun blog! I used to live in Brooktondale (just to the East of Ithaca), and we would drive (usually through the State Forest) to the diner in Candor every weekend. I live in Kansas now, of all places, and I am so homesick! I've really enjoyed perusing your blog. I will be back to keep all those Fingerlake memories alive until we can move again. Thanks!

Posted to PoultryI came across your website while browsing information about goats. You have a great site - very informative and the pictures are wonderful.
My husband and I are raising boer and angora goats and we just had our first two mom's kid this past Sunday and the one before. Also, my husband is working on building some mobile goat shelters and the design is amazingly similar to what Gary built.
As I read further, I came across the pictures of Hank and thought "He looks like a farm collie." Then I noticed the tab on your side bar. I clicked on it and started reading the posts about Hank. When I came to the post about Hank's family tree, I couldn't believe it. We just picked up our puppy from Tish this past Saturday. One of Rooster's sons.
And if that is a Wood-Mizer sawmill I am going to have to start suspecting my husband and I have twins in Candor, NY. Not that we have the mill just yet but it is on my husband's wish list. You know, something we can use for all of the locust trees we have growing on our farm. :)
