Working on potatoes

Early this morning we started weeding and hilling the potatoes.

Enemy #1 is the potato bug. There were many. Some people flcik them into buckets of water but I was not so prepared. I rolled them in the leaves and squished. Yes it was pretty disgusting, but at least the potatoes will thrive.

Many of the plants were flowering.

The milkweed, which I always leave alone, was flowering too. A swallowtail enjoys a meal.

The potato field is next to the cow field, and they paid attention to us all day.

Here is JW who is due to calf soon.

Here I am, outstanding in our field of hilled and weeded potatoes.
